Indian Dinner All Veggie Class Mexican Feast Thai Dinner

Japanese Zaru Soba

This tasty traditional Japanese dish Zaru Soba is typically served with cold buckwheat noodles (soba) a "Dashi" dipping sauce and condiments of scallion, wasabi mustard and grated daikon.
Zaru with the "r" pronounced as an "L" Zalu literally means bamboo strainer.
The Dipping Sauce is a mixture based on Dashi and kind of stock most commonly of dried fish flakes known as Bonito.
I in this version I used Daikon and Yellow squash noodles, a raw dashi dipping sauce and for condiments sliced shiso leaf, scallion, wasabi, and japanese pepper call Shichimi or 7 pepper.
To eat you add scallion, wasabi, to the dipping sauce as to your own taste, then dip your noodles in the sauce for each delicious bite.
Dipping Sauce
4     tbs       dashi
3     tsp       raw soy sauce
2     tsp       rice vinegar
1     tsp       agave
1     tsp       flax oil
Blend in a blender and then strain:
1        sheet        Nori
2        cups         water
1/4     cups         soy sauce
2        tbs           agave
1        tsp           chopped scallion
1        tsp           salt

It is best to go through our day with open eyes looking and be willing to see what is available instead of only pursuing what we are trying to do and seeing only what is getting in our way of that one thing.

Old McDonald Outshines Ronald McDonald

Despite the ongoing economic recession, consumers are increasing their purchases of green or sustainably produced foods. One Florida-based chain, Pizza Fusion, delivers locally grown, family-farmed foods in hybrid vehicles. The chain now boasts 75 franchises in 15 states, all of which are built from recycled materials. Not to be outdone, a union of 42,000 North Dakota farmers have pooled their resources and invested more than $6 million to build green restaurants in Washington D.C. to showcase food from family farms.

One of the "farm-to-table" establishments is walking distance from the Capitol and the White House, offering a tasty home-cooked reminder to U.S. policy-makers that this nation was built on the backbone of the family farmer. When asked if a meal at the restaurant has the potential to positively impact a congressperson's ability to reject the offers of a corporate-agribusiness lobbyist, one patron said, "It depends on how warm the apple pie is that day."

National Call-In Day for Farmworker Rights!
Whole Foods: Can you Hear Us Now?

Despite a mobilization by thousands of organic consumers, Teamsters, and United Farm Workers, sending in petitions and handing out leaflets at Whole Foods Market stores in 33 states, WFM is refusing to stand up for workers rights!

Oregon-based Beef Northwest, the feedlot corporation that fattens up Country Natural Beef's herds, refuses to negotiate with the United Farm Workers in good faith. Whole Foods in the single largest seller of Country Natural Beef in the U.S. Joining leading elected officials in Oregon, Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama, in a letter earlier this year urged Beef Northwest to sit down and negotiate a contract with the United Farm Workers. In the spirit of Cesar Chavez, please support the United Farmworkers Union drive at the Beef Northwest feedlots in Oregon and send a message to the world: eliminate labor exploitation in the organic and natural food sectors.

  • Call and fax Whole Foods' Corporate Headquarters and you local Whole Foods' General Manager.
  • Spread the word in your community and send a letter to the editor in support of sweatfree organic and natural food.
  • Send a letter to Whole Foods executives here.

Dr. Mecola on Toxic Metels In Your System

Most people are absolutely clueless about just how toxic mercury is. It is toxic at one in one billion-part quantities.  That is about the same concentration of one grain of salt in one swimming pool.  That is why having mercury fillings is such a major challenge to your health.

Heavy metal toxicity, just like chemical toxicity, has become one of the most pressing health hazards of our day. Your body is assailed by chemicals and heavy metals on a daily basis, oftentimes from the most innocent-looking sources, from your everyday cookware to your child’s rubber ducky.

It has now gotten to the point where babies are being BORN toxic due to the toxic load of their mothers. A 2004 study by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that blood samples from newborns contained an average of 287 toxins, including mercury, fire retardants, pesticides and Teflon chemicals.

Despite these dire warning signs, giant corporations and industry advocates like DuPont and The American Chemistry Council are fighting tooth and nail to block any and all proposed bans on toxic agents that happen to be part of their profit-making schemes. According to EnviroBlog, the latest army of lobbyists is trying to crush U.S. Senate Bill 1313, which calls for a ban of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in concentrations exceeding 0.1 percent from food packaging, for example. And California State Senate Bill 1713, which would ban BPA from baby bottles and toys, is also under attack by hired guns who are trying to scare everyone into believing this bill will put an end to all canned and jarred goods.

If there ever was a time to get more involved in the political process – as these are serious survival issues -- now might be a good time.

How Do You Know if You’re Suffering from Heavy Metal Toxicity?

Acute heavy metal toxicity is a lot easier to diagnose than that of chronic exposure. Indications of acute toxicity include:

  • Sudden, severe cramping and/or convulsions
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Sweating
  • Headache
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Impaired cognitive, motor and language skills

Symptoms of toxic build-up due to chronic heavy metal exposure, however, are much more subtle, in large part because these symptoms are so “common,” such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Digestive distress, and reduced ability to properly assimilate and utilize fats
  • Aching joints
  • Depression
  • Impaired blood sugar regulation
  • Female reproductive problems such as menstrual difficulties, infertility, miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, pregnancy-induced hypertension and premature birth

Add to that your exposure to toxic fluoride in your municipal drinking water, which actually increases your body’s uptake of aluminum, in addition to all the other health damaging effects it has in and of itself, and it’s no wonder you’re feeling less than great.

How Broccoli Fights Cancer

Just a few additional portions of broccoli each week could protect men from prostate cancer. Researchers believe a substance called isothiocyanate in the broccoli sparks hundreds of genetic changes, activating some genes that fight cancer and switching off others that fuel tumors.

Prostate cancer kills more men than any other kind except for lung cancer. Each year, 680,000 men worldwide are diagnosed with the disease and about 220,000 will die from it.

The benefit derived from broccoli would likely also be available from other cruciferous vegetables that contain isothiocyanate, including Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, arugula, watercress and horseradish.
